How to download YouTube videos in 1080p Full HD
1080p Full HD is probably the most-used quality for downloading YouTube videos, and for good reason: it has the best balance of visual quality and file size. In this guide I'll show you how to get real 1080p with YTSavr and why it's the best pick for most cases.
Why 1080p Full HD?
1080p means 1920 pixels wide by 1080 tall. It's the traditional "Full HD" resolution. Reasons it's the sweet-spot:
- Looks excellent on 24" monitors, laptops, tablets, and all modern phones
- Manageable files: 30-50 MB per minute, vs. 100-200 MB for 4K
- Fast downloads: up to 5x faster than 4K
- Lag-free playback on any device
- Universal compatibility: any player handles it
How to download 1080p with YTSavr
1. Copy the video link
On the YouTube mobile app: tap Share → Copy link. In the browser: copy the URL from the address bar. It looks like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXXXXXX
Short links of the form youtu.be/XXXXXXX also work.
2. Paste it in YTSavr
Go to ytsavr.com, paste the link in the main input, and tap Search video. In 2-4 seconds you'll see:
- Video thumbnail
- Title and channel name
- Duration
- Available quality options
3. Select 1080p Full HD
Typical options:
- 1080p Full HD: what you want
- 720p HD: if you want a smaller file
- 480p SD: for slow connections
- Audio MP3: audio only
Tap 1080p Full HD.
4. Download
Tap Download. Depending on video length and your connection, the download takes 10 seconds to 2 minutes. The file saves to your Downloads folder with a name like ytsavr_title.mp4.
Why doesn't 1080p always appear?
If you only see lower options (720p or below), reasons can include:
1. The creator didn't upload in 1080p
YouTube respects the original upload quality. If the creator uploaded a video filmed with an old camera at 720p, that's the max available. We can't invent pixels.
2. Very old video
Videos uploaded before 2010 are usually 480p or less. The 1080p option didn't even exist on YouTube back then.
3. Age-restricted video
YouTube limits available quality on age-restricted videos when accessed without a verified account.
Quality: YouTube 1080p vs. original camera
Important: YouTube's 1080p is re-compressed. The creator uploads their video and YouTube processes it to serve efficiently. This means the quality you download is NEVER the original file the creator had.
For most uses this doesn't matter — YouTube 1080p looks perfectly fine. But if you need professional production quality, the right move is asking the creator for the source file.
Approximate sizes
To give you an idea:
- 1-minute video at 1080p: 30-50 MB
- 5-minute video: 150-250 MB
- 10-minute video: 300-500 MB
- 30-minute video: 900 MB - 1.5 GB
- 1-hour video: 1.8-3 GB
Make sure you have space before downloading long videos in 1080p.
When to pick 720p instead of 1080p
In these cases, 720p is better:
- Limited storage: 720p is half the size
- Slow connection: downloads faster
- Small screen: on a phone you won't notice the difference
- Email sharing: smaller files attach better
Frequently asked questions
Why 1080p and not 4K?
1080p is the sweet-spot between quality and size: it looks excellent on most screens and files are manageable. 4K quadruples size with no noticeable visual difference on screens under 32 inches.
Are all videos in 1080p?
No. Older videos may only be 720p or 480p. If the creator uploaded in 1080p, that option appears. If not, we show the maximum available quality.
How big is a 1080p video?
Roughly 30-50 MB per minute. A 10-minute video typically weighs 300-500 MB at 1080p.
Is it legal to download YouTube videos?
For personal use, allowed in most countries. To redistribute or monetize copyrighted content, you need the creator's permission.
